We support this bill. It was amended via substitute to match the Senate Industrial Hemp Bill that passed the VA Senate 40-0. This allows Virginia farmers and business owners to get a head start on planning for federal legalization of industrial hemp and for Virginia to get out of the gate on this crucial agricultural economic opportunity as soon as the feds lift the legal prohibitions.
HB 532 (Patron: Freitas) – Creates commercial industrial hemp production & processing framework. Replaces licensing requirements with registration requirements. Lowers registration fee from $250 to $50. Limits number of inspections of crops & processing plants to 2 per year. Creates immunity for landowners near industrial hemp crops and processing facilities for unintentional growth of plants caused by tray seeds.
